Default Ok what's the deal?

Alright here's what's confusing the hell outta me. Ok, I have a 1997 Camaro Z28 which is all stock except for a cheap *** catback and a K&N CAI. Now my friend has an Eagle Talon with big 16g turbo, big front mount, piggyback fuel management, exhaust, and is running 15psi. Why the hell am I able to keep right up with him in my stock LT1. By no means am I complaining..lol..just wondering how this is possible. No i haven't gotten her dyno'd yet. Also, my frind with the Talon just raced a stock LT1 Trans Am and ate the TA by 4 1/2 cars. Just wondering if anyone would have any idea how this is possible. Thanks.

maybe cuz the DSM isn't that fast..your car should be capable of mid 13's and low 100's trap speed.

I have seen stock-minor bolt-on LT1s run everything from high 12's to low 15's...it is all in the mechanical condition of the car and the ability of the driver.

I have also seen H/C full suspension LS1's running 14's

LT1's can vary quite a bit in horsepower, both from owner maintenance and from variables from the factory. When my car was stock, I never got beat by another stock LT1.

Or his car could just be running like ****.

What kind of race did you do? (holeshot or rolling) The DSM's are a bitch out of the hole with the all wheel drive, but they lose their advantage in most rolling races. I had a '92 GSX that was a mid-to-low 12 sec car and I could beat my brothers '98 LS1 pretty easy on the street doing standing starts, but from a roll he would win by a car or two.

Alright, just give an idea of how (kinda) fast my friends 92 talon is, he beat a stage 2 SRT4, and can beat stock EVO VIII's and stock STI's. But once again, i'm stock, and i keep right up with him. I have 111,000 miles on my stock LT1 too. Oh yea and the race that we did was from watever roll he wanted. From 20mph to 60mph and everywhere inbetween. No matter what we were exactly the same but of coarse from a stop he eats my *** cuz of that damn awd.

Yea at sea level. I'm in Cheyenne Wyoming. We are over 6000 feet above sea level. I understand that all cars lose power at high elevation but i know i'm losing alot more than those other ones cuz they are all turbo'd.

I posted a reply a couple of days ago on something I read but can't find again. This is going to be the same deal but I AM looking. In 97 or maybe 96 some of the LT1's got LT4 cams because they ran short on LT1 cams. I don't know if there is an RPO for it or not. Since GM went by QS9000 I'm sure at least they have it documented what cars got what. I'll be searching for a link but I aint gonna bust a vien. That maybe the reason some for inconsistancies in the 97's maybe who knows but I did read that and I'm sure someone else on the forum has to.

I'm guessing the DSM just aint that fast! He beat the other lt1 that is beat down ragged out most likely. I know a guy with a 94 z stock (112K) and it dynoed 284 rwhp. Mine dynoed 266 (stock) and was in great shape ( 36K). I still remember my sisters old boyfreind had a teg. We raced and i worked him, 15 car minimum. Then he added a paxton SC and other ****. He talked so much ****.....we raced I beat him by 10 cars, lol. That is when I had a CAI and flowmaster.

Frist of all, is the DSM a 1G or a 2G? A 1G will be slightly faster because it's a little lighter and 15psi on a 16G is ***** boost on a DSM. Most people with supporting mods run 20-22psi on pump gas easily and that should net anywhere from 105-110mph. Add another 5mph to that with race gas and an aggressive tune at higher boost.

I used to eat stock LT1 f-bodies all day with my car when it still had the stock turbo on there like 4-yrs ago. So I would say your buddy's car is either detuned from **** tuning or just from lower boost OR your car is stronger than the average LT1. Hope that helps.
