Default can i just. . ?

remove the heads and oil pan and clean the engine with brake fluid? after removing the intake i found that it was caked with oil crud and sludge. i really would like to take it to the machine shop and have it hot tanked but im not confident enough to tear it all down. would there be any problems cleaning it this way? all debris should fall out of the bottom if i remove the oil pan correct?

How many miles are on your car? If the sludge and oil is as bad as you say and if you have debris in your oil pan thats like bad....reaLLY BAD you might just wanna think about a rebuild man freshen that puppy up. Also your gonna Have to hoist your engine up to remove the oil pan. Instead of taking everything apart look into a product called seafoam...some people swear by it. I have never used it

the engine is already out. i just bought it to put it in my monte. not sure on the mileage. supposedly 60-something thousand. everything is in great shape, which is why i dont want to have it machined, its just full of crap. like the oil was never changed or something

I would tear it down man if its out its not really that hard and you can pay a machine shop to put it back together. I am having a 355 but most done by me but I am not that experienced with the crank, pistons and rod fitment along with bearing so i am having a machine shop do it and clearance it all going to run about $250 I at most. do what you can and have someone help with the rest also try to find the book on rebuilding LT1 and LT4 engines I know summit has it and probably others just cant think of them right now.
