Lt1 to lt4 camshaft swap

It wont be optimal, but you can install the hotcam w/o the rockers. However, the springs are mandatory - the stock lt1 springs are pretty marginal even for the stock cam.

You're lucky you didn't break a spring or something. Better safe than sorry. If a valvespring breaks you're going to replacing a lot more than just springs and rockers. Get the whole kit, or even better, get some real springs from Comp or Crane.

Play it safe and get the springs. If I remeber right, I paid less than $50 for the springs, retainers, and keepers. I kept the stock rockers for now. If you go with the 1.6's you will have to change the springs anyway. If you plan on possibly going with a bigger cam in future, you may want to go with Comp's springs instead My 2 cents

I have no emissions. I have hooker longtubes and dual exhaust. Why dont you guys make me some cam reccomendations.. cause my girlfriend wants to drive it but I still want it to have more punch than a stock z. I also have slp cold air.

I would say go with a comp cams 503 or a custom grind. Call comp and tell them exactly what mods you have done and exaclty what you want the car to run like. Tons of lope not much lope etc perfect daily driver or a bit harder to drive but more fun etc. Also talk to bret sstrockerace (from these forums) I think is his name he should be able to help you pick one out. The few peopel that spoke up and said get the hot cam are about the only ones that I have seen that actually like it. Remember when looking at cam specs the hot cam is rated with the 1.6 rockers where all others are with 1.5 so it looks way bigger then it actually is from what everything I have read.

the hot cam is nice because it is a good price and it is a kit so you don't have to worry about everything working right together or fitting well. as far as performance, you can do alot better. I bought a hot cam kit my self but after hearing what everyone had to say ended up selling it and going with a cc503, 10308 spring kit, and the gmpp 1.6 rr for my stock heads dd z28.

Would you take a crap without wiping your A$$? If you do a camswap, do it right while your into the motor. You can install what youve said, but why put extra stress on already shitty springs?

Before you choose a cam, figure out what your goals are: Do you want a daily driver, want to run 10's N/A, ect. Be realistic when you determine what you want. Do you have time to keep-up the maintenence required with a 10 second car? More importantly do you have the funds to do so? Tailor what you want into the parts you buy.
In my case, I have to meet California emmisions to have the car on the road (at least legally). The HOT cam just barely works to that end. I also had two other requirements: 13 seconds (now changed to 12's) in the 1/4 and I must be able to drive it to work on any given day. Since my commute is 55 miles one way in nasty freeway traffic - often at under 5 mph- the HOT cam is about as big as I want to run.
It works great as a driver, gets reasonable milage, can idle in traffic, and does not break parts at a greater rate than stock. Not to mention, I got the cam for $100 or so on e-bay and the NEW springs, locks, & keepers for another $50.
Just remember to keep your goals in mind when you buy parts. Also amke sure your abilities and wallet can support what you want to do.
Good Luck with the choice

cc305 is listed as 305-8
cc503 is listed as 224/230-112
You should be able to find them in the Comp cam catalog under Hydraulic Rollers
