From what I have heard, if you have 3.23's you can shift into first. 2.73's you have to cut out the little rubber stop off the shifter assembly. I cut mine off` and now I can go into 1st. I have 2.73's

all you have to do is remove the center console cover. try to put the car in first and you will realize whats blocking it. cut that out and you have a whole new gear.
did it last week.

I wouldn't see how forcing it into 1st will work. I cut the rubber out today and can now go into 1st gear. Pretty awesome since most roll races are from 1st gear. But anyways, the rubber is thick/solid as hell and supported by a metal tab. What I realized is there is actually two rubber stoppers. What I think happened to those who say they have to slam it into 1st with 2.73s, is someone took out one off the stoppers only (the small thick one).
Here is a picture of the other large stopper that is farthest up front. It's more spongy
The impression you see is from a rod that begins to touch it in 2nd gear. Then it pretty much stops it from going to 1st.
Here is a picture of the small rubber one that is really thick.

You couldn't pay me to do that again. Had a hell of a time with it and pissed I cut my leather on the e-brake handle. But I'll show you this... The red circle is circling the rod I talked about.. the stopper is RIGHT under it. The green circle is where the thick rubber stopper is located.
