Default Headers for a 396 LT4?...

So, i've got my 396 back from the shop, and ready to go back into the engine bay, and started it once it's all hooked up. The problem i'm running into is I want to get some better headers then the ones I have, dynatech with removable collectors, and i've heard a few different things about a few different brands. I was looking at getting some coated pacesetters, but was told they wouldn't be large enough with the size of engine I have and the amount of power it's projected to produce. The pacesetters are 1 3/4's, where as i've been told to look at some 1 7/8's instead. Any ideas on this, and brands to look at?

If it is a street/strip setup, I would consider 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped headers

1 3/4" is fine for all but truely WILD setups.

Personally I would go with Kooks Headers, than pacetters headers. I like Kooks better design and flow alot better than Pacetters.

I'm in the same boat! I'm REALLY LOOKING AT THE KOOKS! They are just SO MUCH MORE $$$$$! But like anything "you get what you pay for!"

Heddman makes a NASTY 1 5/8 - 1 7/8 stepped header.

Might as well go with bigger headers now if it suits your application that way you don't have to upgrade down the road.
