I need to get a new oil pump for my rebuilt motor. There are threads on 50+boards talking about the new Melling M55 series pumps that are junk. The casting was changed on them, and they are not to be used on motors seeing over 5500rpms. I am looking to get a standard volume pump, not high pressure, or high volume. I will be running a stock pan, and the motor is fresh, so there is no need for a HV or high pressure pump. Mellings says that their new "select" line has the old casting, but that is being debated also. Some say that they have recieve the "select" pumps and they also have the weeker casting. To my knowledge mellings also makes the moroso, and replacement GM pumps also. I am lost, and cant figure out what pump I need to get.

I am using the Melling select 10554 standard volume. It seems like a strong piece.

How long ago did you get it? I have heard conflicting reports that the Select pumps have the same week castings.

Only problems with the M-series pumps that I've heard about were with cars running solid motor mounts.

I just got it a coupe of weeks ago, it definantly seems to be a thick casting. Looking at the pictures of the weaker castings, the 10554 doesn't seem to be one.
