Before you pull the pan just strain the oil. You can use a simple paint strainer for this. Metal in the oil would be bad. I had lots of bearing material in mine.

I wouldn't say a spun Bearing. I spun a Rod Bearing that lead to spinning 4 of the Mains. That Engine was shaking and screetching, and running on like 6 1/2 Cylinders..
You probably have a Rocker loose, not too lose, but just a little bit.

if it was cam bearings wouldnt you notice an oil pressure and if it was a rod bearing its quite but when you rev it up it has an unusial sound kinda like a stick on a chain leenk fence like Ziippp or like a loose fan belt that slips? deffintly check top end first

Sounds like a rod bearing to me also!

But like these guys said, check stuff before u pull it. I checked everything I could, from the W/P drive to the heads (rockers, blah blah).

Pulled it and it was my #1 rod bearing, crank is toast. Has a nice groove!

Good luck!

If it is a rod bearing, you can start by pulling spark plug wires one at a time to see if the noise goes away, when it does then you have found the cyl. that it is in.

Rods will also get quieter with a load on the motor. Put it in gear (or slide the clutch out a little) and the noise should quiet down considerably. Go back to neutral and the noise should get louder.

I just bought my '95 T/A 3 weeks ago with a horrible sounding knock - I found 3 bad rod bearings in it #2, 3 & 4. In process of re-buillding now. #3 rod bearing was completely gone..good 1/8 clearance all the way around between the rod and the crank journal - and the motor STILL held 40 psi of oil pressure. Figure that one out....
