OVERHEATING (and p%$$!n me off)
Ok so I am fairly ok with repairs.....at least I thought. I am workin on a 93 LT1 firebird. The fans don't come on. No big deal right? So, I hook up my trusty ol "brick" (snap on scan tool) go under special tests and power on the fans, both fans click on and off as ordered. Ok next test I let the car run and watch the scanner 200...210...220...230....and the bottle starts to steam a litte, so I shut er down all the while the scan tools reads "fan request no" Ah says I bad computer...it is showing the correct temp but not turning on the fans. I install a new GM computer....same thing.....Ok must be a bad PROM I order one from GM......SAME THING? I thought there is only one temp sensor and the fans are turned on VIA the computer. Anyone have any ideas???? I mean any? .....................THANKS!!!

The car HAD a manual switch, I am working on eliminating it, and that article was VERY informative, I am going to let the car run a few more degrees, see if it works, then reprogram if they do come on.......thanks

call your local dealer parts department with your last 8 digits of your vin and ask if there is a fan relay available. Obviously if the fan kicked on when u tested on a scan initially than your connection is good, i say check for a relay, chances are thats probably why they had a hotwired fan set up in there to begin with...
