Default Heater Box/Core/Unit Questions. Pics Inside.

Thats what my heater box looks like. Its like that to clear my longtubes, my old builder decided that was the best option to fit them in

Anyway, would this gapping hole cause me to not get heat into the car? I hda the heater on with the 396ci in the car and it wasnt blowing at all, i figured that this hole was the problem. The plan was to put some sheetmetal over it if i ever use the car again.

I still have all the heater lines etc..

So, why am i not getting heat?

Tony.

Just break the rest of it out.
I love people that "fix" things with Hammers.

My thoughts on why no heat, is because the hole is causing too much outside air to enter the HVAC system which is dropping the inlet temperature so much that the heater core isnt large or hot enough to heat that much air.

That is my thoughts, mainly because I am doing Thermodynamics homework hahahaha

Well I dont want to take the box out because I need the heater, and if i ever want the AC back i wont have to do anything major.

Im just wondering if the solution to the heat problem is as easy as sealing up that hole.

break it until you know youll have enough clearence...maybe a little more even with the firewall, closer to the actual ""radiator"" (heater core)
sand it up with some 80 grit nice and rough...around all the edges...cut out some fiberglass cloth to the size you need...then start paintbrusing on resin...do another layer after that...when youve got 2 layers...sand it smoothe...(or use an air grinder)
then use a little bondo to get it extra sexy smoothe...and paint it black...

I suggest the fiberglass idea also. You can get the fiber cloth, resin...etc at your local hardware store. With the system like it is now...you will be breathing fumes from the engine bay with the heater on.

I think he had the Hedman headers which require the heater box to be modded.

I will be going to the store tommorow to see what i can come up with. My only concern is that the header will be so close to the fiberglass and it will mess with its strength and make it fall apart.
