Default ?? about Pistons, Pls Help Guys.

Have a chance at getting these pistons, but not sure if they will work with my application. I'm having my car done, ZZ4/ZZ3 cam, stock ported heads w/ lt4 valve springs, lt4 timing chain. For the block, I wanna reuse my crank and rods and put new pistons in.

Would these ROSS 7cc dome gas ported pistons work with the above setup?

PART#64972 CUSTOM ORDER GAS PORTED PISTON SBC LT1

BORE SIZE 4.045 NET DIA 4.037

RING GROOVES .043 1/16 3/16

COMPRESSION HEIGHT 1.220

PIN DIA .927

DBL SPIRO LOX

NET DOME CC 7.0

DOME HEIGHT .200

INT VALVE DEPTH .310

EXH VALVE DEPTH .290

PISTON WEIGHT 532 GRAMS

ROSS PISTON PHONE#310-536-0100 CHECK AND SEE HOW FAR OUT THEY ARE ON CUSTOM PISTONS AND YOU WILL FIND OUT THAT THE PRCE STARTING ON THESE PISTONS IS REAL CHEAP INCL SPIROLOX AND PINS

Any help is very much appreciated.

Depends on how much your head chambers are opened up. Those look like dome pistons. Most people just go with flat tops unless it's a race setup.

Can you tell the difference between dome and flat top pistons by just looking at them?

very easily so...

the name says it all.. dome pistons have, well a "dome" to them on the face of the piston. and a flat-top piston has a flat face, albeit 99.9% of aftermarket pistons have valve reliefs (looks like crescent moon shapes, or eyebrows) other than that they are pretty much flat, hope that helps?

top left piston is considered a "flat top". the top right piston is a "domed" piston. and the bottom piston is considered a "dished" piston.

If you havent bought them yet or started anything you might want to do a little more reasearch on building the LT1 block I would say about 90% of the built Lt1s either use a stock type piston or a flattop. Those you have might be to much for the stock head chambers

a 1.22" compression height won't work w/ stock stroke/rod combo. (it will fit, but the piston will be way down in the hole....not good)
With a 3.48" stroke and 5.7" rod, you'll need something with ~1.56" compression height. That piston looks like it's more suited to a longer stroke and/or longer rod setup. My 383 combo with 6" rods for example uses a 1.125" compression height.

....this is of course assuming you are using STOCK crank/rods, since I have no history on your car. Even if they fit, with a 3.48 stroke and stock (~58cc) chamber, a 7cc dome gives between 12.25:1 to over 13:1 compression (more on a stoker) depending on your deck clearance/quench etc. which is TOTALLY not pump gas friendly with your cam.

Conclusion: those pistons aren't for you

not to jack the thread, but since it bussiness1st's question seems to be answered.....how do you like that 111LSA on your xfi lobes? I was considering a tighter LSA in that range (as opposed to the 113 they grind into the shelf XFI LT1 cams) on some xfi lobes but with the 236/242 duration on a 383. What's your idle like? Low end torque etc? A vid maybe?

...guess I can post a thread about it....
