This is soo anoying. My car has trouble starting sometimes and then sometimes it is fine. It seems to be once the car is warmed up it doesn't really have much trouble starting. But sometimes it is hell. Like tonight it was cruise night and it had been parked for maybe 15 minutes at the most after running for i dunno .5hr-1hr. I put the key in and turn and it is struggling to go and then i feather the gas a bit and it is almost their. finally it starts and then turns out we aren't leaving so i shut er down and in another 15 ish minutes i try it again and it just clicks everytime. After about 5-8 trys it starts up with no problem really. It seems to be kind of random. What's goin on with my car?

Put the car up on jackstands and then crawl under and beat the starter with screwdriver or small hammer. Then try to start it. if it starts after beating the starter then you need a new one.

My other 94 Z28 started doing the same thing this weekend. Time to change the starter.

If your compression is up over stock, the stock starter might not do it. In that case, LT4 starter as Merv mentioned. I had mine rebuilt and upgraded and been working well for almost 3 years now. You might try a stouter unit out of Summit for SBC.

Summit has a starter that will work for the 153 tooth. I ordered one of their house brand starters once but I sent it back after I figured out my problem wasn't the starter. Nice looking starter though.

My catalog is showing PN pwm-9502 as the Powermaster XS for 153 tooth flywheel. Regardless, the starter I got from Summit looked actually a little shorter than my stocker. It was $140 vs $214 for the Powermaster.
