Default what would you do?

alright heres the scoop. i was drivin home the other day and at a red light some guy starts talking to me from his truck. said he had a set of gold race 1.5 rockers. so i took down his number and called him today. he said hed take 200 for the rockers and he'll throw in some lifters and retainers. i dont know what brand the retaiers and lifters are though. i dont know if they're self-aligning or not though. before pursue this any further, is it even worth doing 1.5 rockers? is there a big difference between 1.5 and 1.6? i just dont want to be changing them a year or two down the road. the car is gettin a modest cam and a 383 in two or three years too, which ratio would be better for that setup? basically, would you guys buy a set of 1.5rrs for $200? also, if i pass on them and one of you guys want them, i can buy them and ship them to you.

meh... there isnt a HUGE difference for them in a stock motor, but some cams require them, and all cams benefit from them... not a bad deal though with retainers and lifters... did he say the mileage on em? (thats a big factor to me)

he said they were only on for a few months but, who really knows how long they were on there. what worries me, though, was that he said that he threw a piston through the block so thats what hes selling them. he doesnt have a motor to use them on. im gonna check them out this weekend, if they're self-adjusting ill put more thought into it. thanks irish.

if your going to use your car as a DD or drive it regularly many people would recommend staying away from aluminum rockers due to metal fatigue, they wont last as long as a steel rocker in a daily driven car.

You can get new ones for $200, and who knows how good the other parts are.

Not enough info and the price being good is debatable depending on the brand, mileage, etc. As stated above, save your money.

i was about to pull the trigger on the deal today but i decided not to because i knew practically nothing about them and neither did he. also, the fact that he threw a piston while they were on makes me worried. thanks a bunch guys. now that thats over, what brand 1.6rr non s-a should i get? like i said earlier, its gettin a few more cubes and if thats not enough, its gonna get a few pounds of boost from a blower. i was thining a set of 1.6RRs w/ 7/16 studs and, guidplates cause i dont want to go s-a. im a noob with valvetrain and cams, so help me out if this doesnt sound like itll work.

Get 1.6 comp pro mags, and depending on mileage put a new set of springs too.
