A bad starter wont cause a car to die, just cause the car not to start. Any competent auto parts store can test a starter but starters don't cause a running car to die or have drive ability issues, the drive ability issue they cause is the car to just not start at all. If its clicking and not starting you could have a voltage issue, could be caused by a battery, people have had issues similar to yours with the battery loosing connection in turns.

That sounds like a bad ground!
Check ALL your ground connections, not only the terminals!
a good way to check if it is a ground problem is to get a thick gauge wire and connect the block to the chassis when your car is not wanting to start!
If she cranks right up then you have a loose ground somewhere!
