I think they made it ugly, to make it more safe. The old style is the "Finger Eater" lol Which is basically what you'd make from sheet metal.

Now, makes it ugly to you? It's shape, color? If it's just the color, well you can always clean the **** out of it, sand it down, primer it, and then paint it which ever color you prefer.

And if you want a purdy Alternator, please get a polished Alu, and NOT chrome. Chrome retains heat, heat for things like Alts and engines = bad, very bad.

See, I wouldn't even take my chances with them :\ If they were so superior, people wouldn't shell out for ceramic coated.

This is an alternator that I polished for a girl on z28.com:

Here's the fan up close:

Here it is installed in her engine bay:

I bought the "sawblade" fan from JC Whitney. If I remember right, it was like $20. I bought one that was classified as "polished" but it was a crappy chemical polish which wasn't even close to what it is in the pics. I brought it up to spec with about a half hour's worth of sanding and buffing.

I have an MBA fan and pulley/cap on my alternator.

Thunder Racing still has some left in stock, it looks like.

MBA is now out of business, too bad, John was good to work with.

I like the sawblade style fans... I don't like how the stock fan is a big flat circle, just doesn't catch my eye. I also like the look of the nose cones on the pulleys but I don't see them very often on LT1's
