What do you guys think it will take for me to beat my freinds 5.0

He is 89 gt with weight reduction like a fiberglass hood skinnys in the front mickeys in the back on welds 275 50 15 drag radials His motor is a 302 with trickflow twisted wedge heads a crane cam with 236 240 at 50 520 526 lift with a 110 lobe sephe has a victor jr intake 750 carb 1 5/8 shorty headers flowmasters with no cats msdbox and distributor 5 speed as well. The car pulls strong and was wondering what it would take for me to beat him.

Long tube headers, catback or true duals and run him from a dig.

What does non cammmed, full weight, full bolt on lt1 run at best? My guess would be in the high 12s @ 108.

That combo in the 5.0 has the potential of running high 11s. easy 12.5 @ 110-112
The main thing that concerns me is the carb, if its not jetted right, he may be leaving quite a bit of power on the table. Big and littles, glass hood, no efi..... that thing is pretty light. You may have your hands full.

I tell you what it pulls like a bat out of hell he even has the battery relocated in the trunk for better weight transfer and i would say it light with no ac no compressor aluminum radiator it runs pretty dam good. I think a medium sized cam like the 503 should be enough to hang with him i also have a flowmaster muffler.

I beat my buddy's 94 with a crate motor 302, AFR heads, big cam,
TKO trans, 355 gears and all the bolt ons. My car was stock with a
150 shot of n2o I got him by like 8 cars

He told me he lost because he had cats on his car. I told him that I
had 2 cats and that my valve covers had never been off the car,
I thought he was going to cry

long tubes, some good tires, and a nice high stall converter and you should be almost there in addition to the mods you have.....

What i'd do is install a nice 100-150 shot, don't tell him, and the next time you race walk him hard about 8-10 car lengths... tell him you bought headers and laugh your *** off...
