Default High mileage LT1

My in-law gave me a 1997 Z28, with 186,000 miles...drives smooth, shifts fine, no oil burning, etc... I need to drive it cross country I would like to know what will I need to replace engine wise...i mean i dont want to go all out crazy and buy alternator, fuel pump, starter, opti, wires plugs...etc etc
Should i just buy a low mileage LT1 from Ebay?

you talking about no going all out, but swapping a newer motor into it? personally, i would pull the motor out and rebuild it. and while doing so, check all the other parts. wires and plugs should be changed most likely. air filter. stuff like that.

thanks for the advice...but this shop in NJ quoted me for 3,200, rebuilt and installation...
does that sound like a rip off?

if everything is fine and it has made it 186,000 whats another 2500. I would personally just change the oil and check belts, hoses ,filters and other fluid levels and go for it. Driving across the country is not the best way to iron out the kinks of a rebuilt engine.
