Camshaft help, Im with the 10000 others!
Hey guys, the past few days i have been looking into swapping a cam into my setup. (1996 Trans Am) Being that i have read through quite a few posts i am now trying to figure what i need. My original guess was of course the CC306. I guess i am looking somewhere in that range of lift but i am no camshaft expert. My application has to be compatible with spray, but i dont mind the 112-110 LSA. idle quality doesnt bother me. My mods are listed in my sig and my LT4 heads and intake are being modded as we speak. I NEED HELP! any responses would be greatly appreciated. By the way, im a NOOB, so dont bash too hard.

I would look into a custom cam....perhaps BRE (Bauer Racing Engines) Cam....Off the shelves are good but I don't think they are as good as something specifically for your car and mods. IMHO. Good luck.

You might be best going with a custom to truly get what you want and to get the most power out of it.
You could go with an off the shelf but you would be trading driveability for power, or power for driveability. With a custom you can get something perfect for your ride.
I'd recommend either Bret Bauer - bret@bauer-racing.com is his email, he does specifically LT1s. Another person to check out would be Jay Allen of camshaftinnovations.com. I've spoken with him and his knowledge was impressive.
Good luck.

okay guys, heads and intake are back. i am going with the CC306 camshaft... (i know to some it might not be the best) but oh well. Anyways, i need some help with components!! i completely forgot about getting the heads modded for springs, so are there any springs i can run without modifying?? also pushrods, and valvelocks... what all do i need? (minus rocker arms) any help is greatly appreciated and even possibly if anyone knows someone with this kit for sale.

Honestly instead of the CC306 I would go with the comp cams xtreme energy 236/242...... It is VERY similar to the CC306 (I think actually it has more lift than the 306) and the lobe design is much newer tech with more agressive ramp rates.... overall it's a VERY strong cam. I had it in my old 355 and the car on motor was a monster... (422 RWHP NA with barely any tuning) The car went 11.6 on motor at 119..... went 10.40 on a 150 shot so it's very compatible with nitrous.... and the specs on it are almost identical to the 306.... the 306 is very old technology considering it came out when the LT1 came out like about 15 years ago. cams have come a long way since then.... that's if you're going off the shelf. If not get a custom stick from Bauer or some of the other companies....

Believe me you will not be sad with the 236/242..... it has more lift on the intake compared to the 306, same exhaust lift...... It has 6 degrees more intake duration and 2 degrees less exhaust duration.... Idle quality is nasty and lopes hard... I almost cried when i started my 355 LT1 with it's 4" mufflex exhaust...
Great powerband as well.... You hit about 4000 and it feels like you have another LT1 in the back seat..... Thunder Racing I believe stocks this cam...
