Looks like it goes to the water temp sensor which is for your temp gauge....... You can see where it plugs into the head in the second pic but it looks like part of the sensor has been broken off.

Correct that is the Temp sensor.

Your sensor is broken too, if you can bend the prongs on the sensor back out and attempt to plug the sensor in and see if it still reads correct. The part thats broken off is just a plastick housing.

That is the the temperature sensor that is mounted right underneath your headers, about midways. Mine broke off as well and i had to find where it went. Start you car and see if you have a temperature readout after you have been driving it for a little while. If you dont then that is where it goes.

The LT1 Temp Sensors are a bitch to find..I tried looking into doing something with the one on the Water Pump, but nothing can be done with that. You have to specify the difference when you go to look for it.

Basically, when you go in you say "I need the gauge coolant temp sensor." or "I need the ecm coolant temp sensor". The former, is what I hope is out on my car, since my gauge doesn't work :\ Basically, Litch's way is a good way to tell if it's not connected or not working. If you replace it, and it doesn't work, the gauge is toast, you'll have to get an aftermarket one then.

yeah the last couple days before my opti went out i noticed the temp wasnt going up, i probably broke it doing my header install, but autozone.com says its the temp switch that is located below the manifold
http://www.autozone.com/N,4294897519...locsSelect.htm

So it looks like thats what i need, but my local one is out of them so i have to go to the one by my work.
