Default Headers Leaking, What can I do ?

Just installed new 383 & can't get my jet hot headers to seal ? Do any of you guys use rtv sealant on the header gaskets? Trird copper gaskets & just replaced them with GM layered gasket. The GM gaskets didn't leak as bad.

Using lock washers? Thicker gasket maybe? Re-tighten your header bolts after first install and driving around? How may I ask do you put on the gaskets? Best way I have heard is to use masking tape and tape them to the header then bolt them up...

I use fel-pro gaskets with my Jethots and have had no issues. I had one blow out on me, but that was because a bolt came loose.

Fel-pro definately thr way to go. I tried those Percy's ded soft aluminium and the carbon fiber ones. Both sucked. With the fel-pro after I installed them I left the car run about 10 minutes, then cool down and retighten all bolts. I would then drive the car on short 8 - 12 mile trips a few times the n recheck them. Then maybe every month or so I would check them again. Have had no more issues.
