PCMforLess.com: Questions and Experiences PLEASE!
Trying to keep all my tuning options open. I have a 93 so I have had a hard time finding a local dyno tuner with software. I was wondering if anyone can testify to the quality of a PCMforLess.com tune. How was your experience? How extensive was the order sheet options (you can only view AFTER paying the $215, which makes me nervous)? Love to hear from some 93Z guys!
By the way, if at all relivent, I am running a 93 Z28 with and LT4 conversion kit, hotcam, l/t's and a custom 3" exhaust back, stock stall and rearend.
Thanks guys, a appreciate any info and stories,
Max

Alvin does great work and I would go back to him again if I needed another tune. He is very knowlegable.

They did a good job tuning my car. It took a while longer than I expected so I called them up, and they said they were about to ship about my pcm. It came about a week later. Other than the time I was very happy with the work. The price you pay for what you get is awesome.

What's nice about having a 93, is you don't have to send your computer to them. You actually shouldn't have to send ANYTHING except car specs and money lol They'll email you back a chip, and hopefully the adapter card.
Or do what I did, and learn it all yourself and then find someone who can burn the file for you. My tune cost me $10 for parts 2 EPROMs

Maybe a computer swap, but that still entails sending your core computer in.

93, you get a chip. Either be dumb and cost conscious like me, desolder the original and solder in the new one, or get the adapter card. Which, I'd LOVE to link to, but Moates isn't loading for me. It's $35 and I didn't have that sort of money to spend on an adapter card, when I knew I could desolder it.
UGH Finally after 10mins it loads.

WORD!
Alvin does do great work.
My PCMforless tune was actually done by Bryan, which I will be doing business with him again in a few months.

I just reasontly got a $75 emai,l you flash the computer yourself tune from PCMforless, and I have mixed results. This was on a basic cam only car with a GM847 cam. I decided to hook a wide band up when I started the car up for the first time and first few weeks of driving. Upon start up the car was very lean at idle. Around 22-23 to 1 AFR. The O2s start to work fast to correct the lean condition, and after 20min or so of driving after the first start up the car idles and drives between 14.5 and 15.0 AFR, so thats probably purfect. And, after the computer sees the lean condition, it will start and idle at 14.5-15.0 from then on.
The main problem that I had was at WOT the car was way to rich at low RPMs and way to lean at high rpms. The AFRs were around 11.6 at 4500 and at 13.8 by 6500.
Lucky for me I was only using this as a baseline tune, and after a little tweaking by myself to the PCMforless tune the car now has AFRs that look flat as a board at 12.8-12.9 from 4500 to my shift point.

a 93Z here and Alvin is OUTSTANDING! I had two other tuners that messed with the car for MANY months and left me haning with a car that would barely idle and couldn't be driven around the block! One tuner told me I've have to switch out the Opti for a Deltech and convert to a 94 ECM as the 93s can't handle what I was doing.
When I contacted Alvin and told him what I wanted ( 383 / Supercharger, 42Lb injectors, 2-bar map etc. ) he said no problem.
Sent me the first tune, car fired right up and drove fairly well, slight flat stop off idle, and I put it on a dyno to get o2 reading thru the RPMs ( tune was a bit rich ). I sent the dyno graph and a scan of the car to him and he send me a new chip that is DEAD ON! Car drives like stock around town and once you go under boost the car is insane. On street tires and 10# boost I'm trapping at 124MPH.
I wouldn't go anywhere but Alvin!
