Default CC503 with stock stall and 3.73's?

I have the CC503 Cam going in the car next month and I just want to make sure my setup will work without the car surging. The car is an A4 with stock stall and 3.73 Gears. I dont want to change the stall because I'd like to convert to a M6 in about a year or two but until then will the car drive alright with the 503 (224/230 .535/.544 w/1.6RR's, 112lsa) and the 3.73's? Im also having the car dyno tuned so that should help a little I hope.

Nope, you need a converter if you want the car to be fun to drive. I had the gm227 on the stock stall and even that was borderline.

Your going to want to do the stall. If you put the stall in with the gears, it may change your mind about autos.

I have a Hotcam (218/228 .525/.525 w/ 1.6RR's, 112lsa) with the stock stall and 2.73s (even worse). Though the 503 is a little bigger, I doubt it could be THAT much of a difference. It's not that bad on my car, and I just have a mail order tune. I'm guessing you'll be fine, though I have never ridden in a car with the 503.

That's probably true, however, from a performance standpoint one would want the stall to get the max benefit.

Right. I plan on getting a stall myself sometime in the near future. However, his question was about surging. I was just answering his question.

Just some advice, I found that a stall with a good name is worth its weight in gold!

Can't decide if I want to do 3.42s for a 3500 stall first.

Personally, whichever you decide on first, I would go smaller on the stall. That's just me. I'd do something in the 2800-3200 range with a Hot Cam. You have to consider the torque band.

My last 383 had a Comp 503 with 3.42's and a stock stall. No problems with driveability or surging; mail order tune also.

I was thinking about a Vig 3200 to be honest, but I've also heard those are closer to 3500 stall speed. Not really sure which to get.
