Engine Swap Question
hey guys, I blew a head gasket on my high mileage Trans Am a while back and I finally got some money together to replace it, and I found a few possible candidates for an engine swap.
1- 96 Buick Roadmaster Engine
2- 95 Z28 Engine
Now, the guy at the wreckers that I talked to told me that you couldn't put the 95 Z28 engine into the Trans Am, but wouldn't tell me why. Anyone have any ideas of why that would be, or does he just not know what he is talking about? I'm pretty sure my wiring harness should just plug right in =/.

What year is your car? Also is it an M6 or an A4 trans?
If your cars a 93-97 the Z28 (LT1) will just drop right in. Your wiring harness on the other hand might differ, depending on certian things like year, transmission, etc.

as long as it had an LT1 to start it drops in no problem. all LT1's are the same. thats like someone sayin ur car has a corvette engine in it *well no der, cept i go faster than a vette!!! hahaha* depending on year, it may or may not be a direct plug in. 93-95 obd1 96-97 obd2 connectors. take that into consideration. and the differences between those engines is just the heads I believe. the z has aluminum where as the road master will have cast iron. also make sure the one in the road master is a 5.7 and not a 4.3 LT1.

Whoops, my car is a 96, and is an automatic.
As far as I've read so far, the engine should plug right into my wiring harness, minus a knock sensor that needs to be replaced and the crank position sensor won't be there, so it'll shoot a code out, and I'll have to get that tuned out.
