Default Looking foe info on the lt-5

can anyone point me in the right direction i am looking to buy a LT-5 motor complete i am looking to do a swap into a 2000 Z/28 i think this motor has more potential then the ls1 due to the dohc setup maybe i am wrong but i think it should be because of the higher flow of the 4 valves per cyl and help would be great also do any one know anyone making a dohc head for the ls-1 or will the head from the Lt-5 bolt to a ls-1 i know it will cause a lot of fab work but i think it would be helpful

Now I will be as nice as possible. If you hit the search button and Type in LT5 Im sure there should be more than enough resources at hand. Major obstacle is the shear size of the motor.

Like said above ^^^^ But no way will the lt5 heads EVER go on an ls1. And there is no aftermarket for the lt5. So its pretty much not worth it at. Just keep the ls1 and mod the hell out of it.

Umm there is aftermarket for the LT5. I believe there are quite a few shops that do work on them. Aftermarket wise yes maybe no one makes different heads, but no reason to with how well the stockers can flow.

He wants $12K for the engine. You can build one hell of an LSx for $12K.

The potential of an LSX motor FAR exceeds that of an LT5 IMHO. Don't waste your money.

I think the sheer size of the motor won't fit. Even if it did then you will get into the other problems being aftermarket is non-exisitant and what's there is high $. Sure you can port the stockers, but try finding someone with 4V porting experience. Then camshafts to take advantage of the heads, nothing off the shelf there, so you would have to pony up for cams. The motors are the most durable out there, very rare and unique, but for the average joe wanting to make power it would be insane.

The LT5 is very rare and $ wise you could pickup a LS7 for the same price

The LT5 is a great motor and has potential but is old school compared to a LSx motor

WHY? An ls1 with bolt ons makes the same power as an LT5...wait for it......WHY!??

If it was me, I would call Looney Tunes and get a line on a T34 Illoudium space modulator, THAT would be original.

SOme people are a glutten for punishment.

Really, If I saw an F body with an LT5, I would say" Damn this guy has more money than he has sense, the LS1 makes the same power with bolt on's, for the money he spent, he could have built a 550(minimum) hp LS1"

But hey that's just me.

I have seen one or two F-bods with LT5s, they do fit, but Yea they are huge engines

Formula350 posted a link to a thread on another site of a LT5 stroker build up, that thing looked amazing

Anyways, I say dont be a lemming, get an LT5 if you want it. And there is an aftermarket, you just need to know where to look
