Default pics of dash removal and a few questions

Well changing my guage cluster to LED's turned into completely removing the dash and ripping out the rest of my HVAC system.
What is this silver box and can I remove it?

What size torx do I need to remove this bolt holding the two heater lines to the car?

This is all the crap (weight reduction) I am getting rid of:

And more pics of the mess:

Stop teasing us with pictures of feet. Show the whole thing Unless, of course, those are guy feet.

Third pic down, upper right corner.

Its a mess getting all that HVAC crap out of there. Not sure how far you want to go but if you pull the seats and peel the carpet back you can get rid of the rubber mat stuff thats under the lower part of the dash and floor. Thats some heavy stuff. Also you can pull all the backing off the carpet and lose a few pounds there.

Ya, I saw a lot of rubber padding up against the firewall as well. I think I might try to get some of that out. I def. plan to take the padding off the carpet. Will it still lay right? As in not noticeable? I want keep the interior as stock looking as possible.

Yeah, I just did the same thing last night. Pull the dash to start ripping out the HVAC, that is...

While in there I decided to pull the Airbag and the rubber mat under there, it is real easy to get out if your willing to cut it up like I was... Oh yeah, there was a bit of weight to it. I didn't put it on a scale, but it felt like about 8-10# or so when I bagged it all up and threw it out...

I am also pulling out the stereo, speakers, as well as the wiring for the airbags, HVAC, and stereo.

As for your question about the padding under the carpet, yeah you won't really notice anything different, looks stock, and it makes it a hell of a lot easier to pull the interior apart again in the future. I've had the padding out of mine for a while and pulled the carpet again last night to get to the wiring for the stereo, and boy it was soo much easier then the first time I pulled it when the padding was on there...

BTW, where in the tri-state area are you? I work in N. Wilm, and live PA, not too far from the airport....

I live about 45 minutes out of Philly in a small town called New London, right above Newark, DE. I am still leaving the airbags and stereo stuff in for now... Anyone ever figure out which torx size I need to remove the two heater lines bolted in the engine bay (red box in one of the pics)?

I take it you don't have a set and you're going to have to buy just one? Anyway, I can't remember right off hand the size but that's not fun with the headers in there. However, taking out is much easier than replacing. Just be glad the heat ain't going back in so you get to skip that part.

Tearing it out is the easy part!

Putting it back in? Well.....

THAT is going to be a little harder.

Since I am in the middle of this same project, when I get home tonight I will try and see if it is one of the few Torx sizes I have, and will post up unless someone else does first...
