Default 94 LT1 motor into a 96 trans am

so, my dad found an LT1 for cheap from a friend of his. its out of a 94 formula.

it has no intake manifold, oh darn. $150 it cost us.

Anyway, I was thinking of rebuilding this motor and dropping it into my 1996 trans am.

My main concern, my car is OBDII, those 94s are OBDI. I know my car has pre-cats and ****, but that isn't affected by the motor. People are saying that my car has a crank sensor, and the 94s didnt? Im pretty sure my 94 formula that i owned did have one.

Anyone know anything about these 2 motors?

Just a tip you might want to check into a OBDII to OBDI conversion PCM from either pcmforless.com or madz28.com(madtuner) The OBDI cars didn't have the crank sensor just so you know. Hope this info helps out. Good Luck

why would I downgrade tho? I want this to be a DD, and OBDII spanks OBDI in trouble codes and diagnosis

and ty. so I would need to figure out a way to have a crank sensor on the motor -_-

For about the 5 millionth time........OBDI and OBDII are the computer systems that run the car, they are not motor specific. An LT1 is an LT1 and any year LT1 will work in any year car with an LT1. Take a 92 Corvette LT1 and put it into a 97 F-Body. It will work.

You'll need to swap the cam, timing set, and timing cover from your 96 motor (or a 95+ aftermarket cam) on to the 94 motor as it's stuff is slightly different and incompatible with your 96 setup (specifically, the opti drive and associated opti opening in the cam cover, not to mention the 94 didn't use a CPS and the 96 does). Other than that, it is a drop in swap.
