Drenched my opti... am I screwed?
So in the process of replacing my water pump I decided it would be a good idea to dump coolant all over my opti So am I completely up a creek? I mean, the reason I decided to go ahead and replace the leaky water pump was to avoid frying the opti... very productive Will the fact that I have the negative terminal disconnected and I wont be running the car for a couple of days keep me in the clear? Thanks

eh its a 50-50 chance, the only way you can tell is to wait it out and see how it runs. If its miss firing and running like crap then you its out and in with the new, if not then you are one lucky SOB

I would take it off open it up and make sure there is no coolant on the optical sensor. Should be easy enough with the WP off, just need to pull the damper off the hub.
Really though the usual statements about coolant or water killing the opti are GROSSLY blown out of proportion. I think a lot of stupid kids have cursed and replaced a wet distributor that would have dried out and run a lot longer. The opti is just a distributor and ANY distributor that gets wet will act up till it dries out. I used to offroad trucks and drowned the HEI more than a few times. That one is just much harder to get wet.

i think you will be alright. everytime i wash my car, the engine gets a bath too and ive never had any problems. of course i try to avoid sprying directly at the opti, so you might have gotten it wetter than i do
