Default track tires

alright guys if you could help Id like suggestions on what type/brand/size tires to get for the track. Now I have plenty of spare salad shooters to mount tires on but I'm kinda wanting to get some cheap 15 inch lightweight wider steel rims to mount these on. I would like to go as wide as I can without anything touching back there.

So like said.. What brand and sizes of both the tires and rims.. links would be AWESOME if you have time.. I dont care if these tires are street legal or not for they will only be drivin to the track and back

M/T drag radials should be fine at your power level. And height is more important than width for traction.

I do well on 26X11.5 M/T ET Streets. My best 60' is a 1.53 on stock shocks and springs.

I would think they would have a hard time cramming a 30 inch tire under there.

Mine are 26" tall. I think a lot of guys run the 28"s. What gear are you running out back?

With 3.42s or 3.73s, I think I'd just stick with 26"s but that's just me. Some might say the traction would be better with the 28"s but I was looking at the overall effective gear ratio. See a taller tire will decrease your revs and I don't think you want to do that with your gear and cam. Which brings another question, what is your cam?

Yeah I wouldn't go with a 28" tire if it were me. You'll want to keep your revs up, especially if you have a 3.42 gear. I was trying to think what my setup did with 3.42's when I was still M6........... Are you doing about 1500 RPM at 60 MPH in 6th or more like 1900?

is there a way i can ADD a poll to this thread.. id like to if people think i should go with et streets or drag radials since they are they same price..

I've seen some good 60' times with drag radials. A plus is you can drive to the track with them on.

see thats what i thought. but when i called summit today the guy told me that the drag radials are not street legal.. i told him i was just wanting to take them to and from the track.. he said do not run them on the street because they will pick up eveything on the road

i have one more question to sum this up.. will 15x10 wheels clear my calipers fine or would i have to grind them.. and or is it worth it to grind them or should i just put these tires on some salad shooters

Get the m&h racemaster 28" tall DR's and put 4.10's in it. You will rape through the quarter! This is what im going to do! The 28's should drop me down to a 3.90 final drive or close to it.

I run 15x10 Prostars with 275/50R15 Mickey Thompson Drag Radials for the track.

If you run a 15" wheel, yes you will have to grind down the rear calipers. DO NOT run spacers on the rear due to the high torque load.

The 275/50 is a 26" tall tire and honestly I would go with those. The only reason I would switch to a 28" tall tire is if you were running something like a 4.10 gear in the rear with nitrous.

A 28" tall tire on 4.10's will actually make them feel like 3.70's I believe. If you run a 28" tall tire on a 3.42 car it makes it feel slower. I ran some 325/50 on the car when I first got the rims and it bogged way too bad off the line.

Ok 3.70 would be perfect woth some spray, I lovet it. I agree do not put 28's on stock gear. Im currently running 25.6 on 3.42's and want more gear and traction, so I thought 28" with 4.10 w/ spray would be a good combo.

28" with 4.10s and spray would be a GREAT combo. I plan on running that when I get a 12 bolt with 4.10's.
