Valve Spring Suggestions
I have just received a set of stock aluminum heads that were just done 1000 miles ago. No upgrades, so I am assuming that means the springs too.
I plan on putting these heads on a fresh engine with a zz4 cam.
I have done a lot of reading and my head is spinning with all the different springs, retainers, locks etc.....
I want to upgrade the springs in the heads and not go overboard. I would like the new springs be drop ins with out any machining, or changing the seats in the heads. I am looking to change the springs, retainers, locks and seals.
Will the lt4 springs work with the stock lt1 aluminum head seats, retainers and locks?
Please let me know your suggestions.

LT4 springs are NOT good enough for the ZZ4 cam, about the only thing they are good for is 1.6 rockers on a stock cam.
Find a spring with about 110lbs on the seat and that will be fine. When I ran that cam I used some Combination Motorsports springs that were 110 on the seat and it worked well for years, if you go with 1.6 rockers you might want a little more pressure.
Judging by you handle can I guess this is say a 94-6 Caprice or Roadmaster wagon??? If so you realize the aluminum heads are NOT an upgrade and depending which ones might actually be a step backwards especially if the average machine shop screwed up the very good factory valvejob, because most can not match it.
Everyone ASSumes the iron LT1 heads are inferior, but as cast they are better than most of the aluminum LT1 heads and as good as the best, but the "good" as cast aluminums are thin and less desirable for porting.

Can you give me more info on what springs you recommend from competition motorsports? Is there a part number, link? Are they used with the stock seats, retainers, locks, etc?
Thanks for your help.

i would think Comp 918s would be good. and someone verify this for me, but you use stock retainers, seals, seats, and keepers. thats how it is on LSx motors, but im not sure about LT1s.
