Default Delete the EGR or keep it??

I have a '97 LT1. My SES light is throwing a code. It's the EGR valve. My question is what are the advantages or disadvantages of deleteing it all together? I tried a search on this, but all it produces is info for LS1 cars. It is my daily driver. Thanks in advance.

Also I have a mild hesitation at idle. Could the bad EGR be causing that as well?

Yes, a stuck EGR will cause hesitation. Before you replace it, try taking it off and checking it and the intake for carbon that might be causing it to stick. I've also heard Seafoam cleaning may help unclog it if thats the problem.

The EGR is actully a good thing on a DD where you do allot of highway driving as it helps with emmisions and lowering cylinder temps.

Yeah, ditch it, it doesnt hurt you power wise to keep it, but its a big clunky pos on the back of the intake and adds an extra vacuum line to deal with. you will have to program out the code though or it will throw it again, plus its kind of a pita to block some of the ports.

I don't want to steal the thread, I wanted to ask... If you delete the EGR, would the car pass a smog test?
