My original opti started breaking up over 4K at 152,000. Was still running when I pulled it so I dont know how much longer it would have lasted, but it started going at 152k.

opti took a crap on my 93z @ 198,000 miles. car was completely bone stock at the time. when the opti went bad i figured it was about time for an overhaul anyways. built a nasty cam only LT1, it made it about 1,000 miles and then the brand new a/c delco opti crapped out. wtf!!! anyway on to bigger and better things. 198k, thats got to be a world record.

guy over at camaroz28 had one that was I think 248k miles, it was completely coverd in gunk, it had to be water proofed from all the junk, he had a few pics etc. The motor blowed and the opti was still good.

How many of you that claim the opti died actually tried replacing the WEAR ITEMS, the cap and rotor will wear from the spark jump same as a spark plug does. IMO in many of the cases where the optical portion does go I bet it is high voltage jumping the wrong way because the cap and rotor were neglected too long.
At 96K I changed the opti because I was young and stupid and believed it must be the evil opti causing my problems, original cap and rotor even, it WAS NOT. The current base has 85K miles, 15K miles ago I put an MSD cap and rotor on it, over half of this 85K miles on this base are with modified motor, first cam only and then with the current heads and cam.

My old camaro went 126k on the original opti. The car I have now went about 102k, then another 25k on the replacement - replaced with an MSD unit, 10k later, DTC 16 and horrible misfiring again
