Default Head Gaskets Blow???? Need help before i buy.

So i em going to buy a 1997 Z28 with 99k on it and it has a few problems and i really would like to fix them. So the first problem it has is that is has a blown head gasket. I checked the car and the oil is milky. Also the radiator has a hole next to the refill cap and shoots out quit a bit of water. I also hear a loud ticking sound coming from the driver side head and the guy says it has a exhuast manifold leak. Also heard some heavy backfiring.

I really want to try to fix it myself, how much do you think this will cost me?

I have read a few post and there helpfull but i really want to know what people think, the Camaro i'm getting is SUPER SUPER cheap around 800, so do you think i should take this project on and whats the worst case sanerio that could happen?????

For 800 I would do it. You can get a junkyard motor for a few hundred bucks if EVERYTHING went wrong with the project. My neighbor did the same thing, bought a car for 800 that had a spun bearing. Put a junker motor in it and it's running 13.00 at 108 right now with bolt ons so anything is possible. As to guesses with costs I think the whole gasket set from felpro is like $100, plus you're going to need new head bolts. I would get ARPs because you can reuse them, that's like another $100 including shipping. Then you have probably another $50 for fluids. This is if the heads are not warped. Figure another $100 if the heads need to be resurfaced.

I'm gonna agree with this guy,if you can do the work yourself to fix the problems,it's definitely worth 800.

if you did the work yourself, it would be under 1000. worst thing that could happen is you would part it out and get more then you paid for the car.
