Default Price for LT1??

i bought a gutted out 94 Camaro, (it was a race car project from buddy).

i went to a local salvage yard to find a drivetrain for the car,
they have a 95 Z28(car was rearened and demolished the frame) the motor has 63,000miles on it. they started the car for me, it started right up and ran great. they gave me a price of $1400.00 for the motor, transmission, wiring harness and ecm

is this a reasonable price???

thanks in advance

Offer them 1200. Part out the remainder of the car, hood, fenders, windshield, front fascia. I know of a shitload of f-bods that involved rear-ending someone else. I'm sure good front-end metal would sell pretty quick for you.

not a bad price, I'd offer 1200 bucks. If it's a 6-speed thats an incredibly good deal.

if its a 6 speed then its a good deal, if its an auto then its not that great (about avg IMO)

if its an auto 1200 would be a decent deal, nothing to jump all over though.

auto is going to be better for a pure drag car.

auto but if your going to be building that motor up your gonna end up wanting to go with a stronger automatic like a th350 400, 4l80e etc. because that 4l60e isnt going to last forever with alot of power.

in fact the 4l60e wont last long at all with over 400hp.. i would think you could count the passes down the track on one hand.. maybe without the thumb.

If you're building a race only car don't even buy the tranny. You will end up buying a converter to get it to run decent, then you'll have to replace it when you change over to a TH350 or 400.

Or rebuild the 4l60e stronger, thats what Im going to do. The 4l60e can be strong if built right.

Sorry, but if it's a race only set up, you guys are spending extra money to go slower. The 60E is heavier and harder to turn than a TH350 plus the gear spacing sucks. The only reason for staying with a 60E is for the overdrive. The OP specified that he was building a STRICTLY DRAG RACING set up. Why would he want an overdrive?

I'm not familiar any drag car wire kits. Are they LT1 specific? If not, I suspect that you will need the factory harness. You can modify it to take out all the stuff that you won't be needing.

then again if your gonna build a all out drag car why buy a lt1 in the first place?? Find a 400 out of a old chevy truck and build a sick carbed 408 and a th400. Dont geat cought in all the headachs with a lt1 if your going "all out drag".

An LT1 can be a great project car, with massive potential and great track reliability, but working on them can be a pain.

But this is all about money.
I am sure of you could afford a crate LS 364 or LS2 you would go that route.
If youre going all out LT1, switch to a distributor and get that 10bolt out of there. Sell the 4-L60E and put the money towards a TH350/TH400.
