Default Car shuts off at speeds

alright well last night i had to try out the car finally to see how fast i could get it... and i was in the bottom end of 4th gear and the car just basically shut down on me at like 108 i think... or somewhere around there... and i was pretty much upset and now i want to know if there is anything to do about that besides getting a programmer

it just doesnt sound right that a car would shut off at those kinds of speeds...

You have a speed limiter.

Only way to get rid of it is a tune.

Tuning is the only way that I know how to get rid of the limiter. Why not get an email tune ? They are relatively inexpensive and are good for more than just speed limiter. A tuner can get more hp, firmer shifts and cooler running temps just to name a few. I would do a search on tuners Madz28 and Pcmforless seem to be the email tuners of choice.

Not all cars came with the limiter, only those that had non-z rated tires from the factory.

Hey Squeals99, If you want that speed limiter taken care of LMK, I live in Indianapolis and I had the same problem with my car.(Factory set 108 speed limiter) and a friend of mine has a Laptop with the LT1Edit program on it to tune LT1 cars with. He'll adjust that as well as other things if you wanted. You'd have to come here to get it done, But man it would be alot cheaper than a Junk *** Hypertech or having someone else do it for you. But if you want a hypertech PP3 I know a guy who has one for sale for a 94 F-Body and it is unlocked so you can use it on your car. He wants 200.00 but I could get my friend to put a quick tune on your car or whatever you wanted done for a good price....Probably $75.00 or so! Well just Let Me Know if your interested. He lives in Zionsville which is north of Indy, but He'd meet up with ya somewhere around town. BTW it's kinda weird seeing your signature- You have the same setup as me( CAI, Eagle Alloys, and Hooker Catback) But I have 3.42's, and no Cat. My car runs alot stronger now with the gears....And sounds way meaner with the cat taken off.

^ the speed limiter takes care of the safety issue. the limiters are programmed to shut off a few mph below the tire's speed rating.

invest in lt1edit. it'll come in handy.

The main reason is b/c of costs for the manufacturer and the costs passed on to the buyers. Z-Rated tires costs more $ and I'm sure not everyone was planning on cruising at 149+ MPH I mean don't get me wrong I'd love it, but where do we ever get to go that fast...Other than on the interstate at 2:30 in the morning racing a buddy in his LT1 Formula (Ronnie). )
