Default piston question

ok my 383 is at 9.5 compression with stock unported heads and i would like to get some ai or le heads but if i do my compession will go down even more and i am not wanting to boost it. so what pistons should i go with i know it should be higher than stock compression but what pistons are good out there...

that really depends on your heads.are you using the iron heads or the aluminum heads.
inexpensive speed-pro 2491's are nice 10.76 cr w/64cc 46.00ea.
you may see 11.2 w/factory head.

i like aluminum heads.
the stock B-body Lt1 heads flow very well but they are cast.weight reduction and the ability to run more compression goes to the aluminum.
LE or AI can handle your heads for sure,be sure to have the intake matched up as well.

Ported GM aluminum heads would raise compression a fair amount for you.

You know who I recommend and IMO the 11.9s I was running today at a 29.29 absolute barometer says I am right.

What's your compression if you use 52--53 cc cambers and .027 head gaskets?

Another person that agrees with Dwayne!!!!

What are you using for numbers to calculate compression. My heads are milled a bit to get compression on the stock shortblock, they are just over 53cc, stock aluminum heads are 54-56 or so with some claims of 58cc. Most pistons use 64-76cc when giving compression specs in catalogues because those are common gen 1 motor head sizes.

I'm not quite following how having your heads ported, will result in LESS CR. Unless you are, for some reason (boost?) having the compression chamber milled out a bit o_0 If you want a bit more CR, get your block 0-decked and heads shaved a bit, along with the Impala head gasket.
