Default self aligning vs. non self aligning

i am looking to build a pretty bad street rod out of my 96 formy. I am stuck on what rockers to get. I want to go with comp cam pro magnum non self aligning with a 1.6 ratio.

Now the reason i want to do that is so i can go with the bigger (7/16) rocker stud for more strength. But at what cost does non self aligning come at? What does it take to align these rockers, will i have trouble with the pushrods rubbing on the head? I don't know, i have never built a racecar before.

Any imput will be greatly appreciated.

go with NSA and be done with it. Get your guideplates and hardened pushrods and rockers. SA rockers have limits compared to their NSA brothers. Why buy things 2x?

BTW the guideplates are going to align the rods to the rockers to properly orient them.

Save your self the money and get regular Magnum rockers. I have them in 1.6 NSA but for stock stud size and they are fine. Don't waste your money on something that isn't going to give you a huge gain. The pro mags vs. standard mags isn't enough to justify the cost IMO.

i have a set of Com cam aluminum rockers for sale not self aligning if you want them $145+shipping they are in perfect condition and they are on 3/8 stud, and it held up just fine with the power i was making so unless you planing on making 2000hp why get bigger studs?
good luck either way.

Can someone post pictures of SA and NSA Rollers? I understand how stamped steel ones look/work, but I can't wrap my head around how Rollers do for NSA.

On SA at the roller tip on the rocker there is a tab on each side. This prevents the rocker from moving left or right from the valve tip.

On NSA the roller tip is guided by the pushrod, which is guided by the guidplate.

here are SA in this thread.

for those saying go with 3/8" studs, at what point does stud flex become a problem? I would think with a large cam spinning almost 7k rpms it might be an issue. Not trying to be a jack *** just curious as I dont know. Go with NSA rollers and plates though

With 1.6 rockers, I was running .555"/.576" lift. When I removed them, over half had some sort of damage on them. I just recently discovered some literature by Comp Cams that said you should not run anything over .550" lift with SA rockers. It's the only thing I can attribute the damage to.

yeah i plan on it being about a .535/.555 lift with the cam and 1.6 rockers. It will be spun pretty high (6500-7000) depending on power band. Thanks for all the imput, nsa rockers on a 7/16 stud!!!

I would prefer to do it right once, than have to go back in later to do it again. Yeah, maybe they would be fine, maybe they won't, i would just prefer the extra insurance... especially since it is the same price to do it either way!!!
