opti delete

Problem is there is NO opti delete both of those options still require a functional opti, they just do the work of a $100-150 cap and rotor but cost several times that much.
On paper multicoil is better and of the two the LTCC has better options BUT when you get down to the real nuts and bolts of it and what actually works and how well the opti is just fine. It is ignorant stupid kids who neglect and break things that build the opti's bad reputation. Yes experianced guys have had failures too but they are not the ones driving the optis bad reputation, plenty of guys running FAST on optis.
Probably the biggest issue is the cap and rotor are wear items like any other distributor can and rotor, but due to their difficulty to access and cost few preventatively replace them.

Reread what I wrote.
I am not saying you have to be ignorant and stupid to buy one of these, I am saying ignorance and stupidity are what cause the opti to get such a bad rap.
I think there are a lot of folks out there with "engineer's disease" who buy a lot of stuff, like this, that offer some minuscule gain and in the end don't have a very good results too dollars ratio to show for it.
I understand this is an expensive hobby and the faster you want to go the expense increases exponentially but when I can outrun cars with "all the right parts" with my fairly basic combo I just can't advocate spending twice as much or more. I think the hobby would be better served if people would step back and look at results more than what is good on paper.
Just to be clear I do think the multicoils are technically "better" my argument is they they are not enough of an improvement to justify the cost.
It also needs to get drilled into people's heads that these ARE NOT opti replacements, if an opti is truely dead these kits wont help.

opti-sparks generally dont fail on their own. the MAJOR failure point of them is the fact that many people dont fix leaks when they start. i always run factory GM opti-sparks and havent had the slightest bit of trouble with them

I think neglecting the cap and rotor too long can damage the optical sensor, if the spark follows carbon tracking back into the base plate.
Again ALL cap and rotor setups are wear items but with the opti most leave them go till they stop working rather than treating them as the tuneup item they are.

i have read up something that they make a kit for opti delete completely. for the sensors inside are replaced with a slotted rotor that acts as a cam position sensor and there is something else. i didnt know if there were still any such kits out there.
