quick question about crane 10308-1 springs
I just got these springs and roller rockers for Christmas. The destructions say the shims that come with the crane springs replace the factory lower springs seats. Just to be 100% certain about what Im doing, the part labeled "seat" in this picture is the lower spring seat, right?

I apologize or the dumb question, but I just want to be sure. Thanks.

My machine shop did not install any seats, just shims (per comp recomendation) on my old N/A 355 and it suffered valve float BAD above 5300rpm. Dropped 90rwhp on the dyno between 5300 and 5400 rpm.

Whooooaaaaaaa!
First you should always run seats on an aluminum head! PERIOD! Otherwise as the spring dances around on top of the aluminum it will eat it out and throw bits and pieces of aluminum schrapnel into your motor, and throw off your valvetrain geometry.
You have to have those springs installed at the recommended install height or otherwise you risk them failing. You should also check for seat pressure and clearance to coil bind. Too many folks just throwing **** together and wonder why they have problems. If you do not have the proper tools and knowledge to do so have it done professionally. While you are there you should also change the valve stem seals.
