Question Heat Cycle the Coated LTs?

I've been reading that the coating on the LTs will ruin the O2 sensors, and that they need to be ran without the O2s until that coating is gone. How many of ya'll heat cycled your LTs and how did you do it?

Also, will running it without the O2s for awhile to do this hurt anything?

I never heat cycled my car, i used pacesetter long tubes, o2's work fine. I would say if the car is simply idling, it probably won't kill the o2's.

Pfft, I peeled out of my house 5 minutes after I was done installing my headers. Went through most of town sideways that night.....ah that was fun...

Point being, ive had them on for awhile now and my O2's are fine, never did the 'heat cycle' thing. Ive never heard of this before actually.

the coating is only on the outside. i wouldnt think anyone would foul out o2's from the new bare metal baking in on the inside.

i never had a problem after my LTs.

Actually I have heard of this a few times....A buddy of mine put on a set of PS LT's and I'll be damned if he didn't burn up a 02 sensor. Now whether it was related or not...who knows. But I have read a few posts about this before. Whether or not it happens is a different story. Maybe it was a coincidence but then again it's a problem that more than 1 person has ran into. Take it as you want, but in some other posts I've read that it is caused because the new metal has to heat up and cool and then heat up and cool,(heat cycle) - thus in the progress it is supposed to create more heat and can destroy the 02's. This is just what I have read in other threads and forums....So I don't want to act like I know it to be true.... My .02

Proper coating is done on the inside too, otherwise the metal overheats and gets destroyed just as if you used wrap.

How old are your O2s, just reuse the old ones and in a month replace them if fuel economy starts to slide during that time. If your O2s are new you have any old ones laying around? I keep all kinds of spare old parts on hand "just incase".

In the case of Jet Hot coatings, that isn't correct. Check out the first paragraph. I just installed Kooks headers that were coated by Jet Hot. The coating is clearly inside & out.
