Accel Opti???
Has anyony had any luck with the Accel Opti? I'm going to be runnin the MSD blaster coil with 8.5 wires and NGK TR-55's. Just needin to know if this would be better than just replacing it witth a new stock Opti.

the best bang for your buck one out there is the one i got from my local autozone. it has a lifetime warnty on the opticrap. i know ive replaced it 3 times all on them, no questions asked. and all three times where due to a collant leak some where. and ill keep going back. but this time i sealed it shut with rtv gasket sealer and no issues since

i used an accel unit from summit and anytime it would rain or if there was major moisture in the air, it would miss like a ****. i think the cap had a crack in it. maybe i got a bad unit?? i sent it back and just bought a cap and rotor from oreilly's, installed it on the old opti unit, and never had anymore issues with the opti spark. btw this was done at 125,xxx miles and now the car has 160,000 miles. hope this helps!

I wish I could say good things about my $300 Accel Opti II but it failed in less than 6 months (DTC 1371); so, on paper it's a much better unit than stock, in practice - not so good.
The one plus I can say, Summit replaced mine no questions asked - I don't think GM would do that!

I had one. Took it off the car one day, turned it upside down and shook it gently and this came out where the optu harness pigtail goes in.
I took it back to Summit and they let me trade it in on a MSD unit. The MSD has been good. Can't go wrong with GM either though.

Garbage...no accel optisparks, coming from a former autozone worker...they are not the best, but they are lifetime warranty and will be replaced everytime with no questions asked. I replace the opti on my 96 Z28 with an autozone one but sealed it with RTV and I spoke to the guy who I sold it to...it now has 70k on that opti with no problems...he wants to replace it with an MSD but IMO...if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Just get an AC DELCO unit and call it a day. many sponsors should still have them for $40-50 cheaper than jegs. I remember Dal used to have the vented units for $234 now the price has gone up $100!

I went with the MDS unit and love it, but it's prolly a tad overkill for my setup, I was going to just go with a GMPP replacement(delco) but Thunder was out and offerd me the MSD at the price of the GMPP one, so I took it

Another NO vote!
OK, so after getting a new replacement Accel Opti (free shipping for this warrenty issue from Summit) - it doesn't fit!
The 4 pin electrical connector will not go in far enough to engage with the pins (and don't ask if I put it in backwards - it only goes one way!).
After hanging my head in shame and removing it from the car, the obstruction is found - a small 1/32nd ridge / interference of plastic where two plastic parts mate!
If I had a 1/4 drive deepwell E4 REVERSE Torx bit (Arrggghhhh!!!!!) I could disassemble the Accel Opti and file that ridge off, so the connector would engage, but who does?
Why in the name of all things good and pure would Accel use the same hyper-obuscure fasteners as GM? So it could be just as difficult?!?! I don't understand...
Summit is sending me another new one, but I'm still afraid of the worst! I do know this though, I'll be checking that connector first with this new unit. Oh, and I have a E4 reverse torx bit on order too! Just in case...

If you plan on running an opti then AC DELCO is the way to go.
