I'm borrowing an 8ft dove tail. Works great.

I'm using a 16ft dove-tail with my Z28 (it's lite and small). The 16ft trailers are about the minium length for a Camaro, however, the longer trailers have their advantages (pit vehicles, tool box, Etc.).

I'm guessing around 1,500 pounds "or less" for the trailer. So, my Z28 at 3,250 and trailer at 1,500 would be 4,750 pounds combined towed weight. I use a 2002 Suburban with a 5.3 LS engine and it handles it really well.

See, LSX engines are actually good for something other than doing donuts is the parking lot.

Thanks, My wifes Envoy is rated at 5000lbs. But I have been told not to try it because or the short wheel base. The tail wagging the dog kind of thing. Sorry if this was off topic, just what guys to be safe when towing.

18' dovetail here as well. The dovetail is very nice for loading/unloading...these cars will scrape easily. The 5.3L Silvy's pull very well. I never had any trouble getting up hills or thru heavy traffic with my 00 ECSB, same as my current Yukon.

It is always best to have a tow vehicle "heavier then" the trailer and load. As pointed out above, then you don't have to worry about the tail waging the dog. With my big Suburban I’ve got that covered.

My buddy used to tow my car and many other F-bodies on an open 18ft Big Tex trailer. It was a nice size and very easy to work with. He had an 04 Silverado 5.3 and it towed well enough.

But once you step up your game, you won't go back. This is my current setup. It is a 24ft Carson enclosed and a 96 Ram 2500 Cummins and I would never tow with a small gas vehicle again.

What is a "dove-tail" trailer?? I had problems with my old bird bottoming out all the time and am looking to buy a trailer of my own.

BTW I pulled my car with a 4x4 99 Yukon just fine and last time I pulled it with my 2WD 5.7 98 1/2 ton pickup just fine also. But I guess it does help that I have 4.10's and the towing package on my 2WD 1/2 ton.

Dove tail means the rear of the trailer is at a slant.
