I heard that you can run 87 octane on a stock LT1 engine? Is this true?

You shouldnt since the engine is 10:5:1 comp ratio

you will get awful hesitation and possible detonation,,, trust me,, the dealer i bought my car from put 87 in mine, it ran like crap when i test drove it. i would run around 92 0r 93, i usually run 93 to 94, and don't put in octane booster in fillup after fillup, that ruined the plugs on an ls1 in the install university website

i ran 87 in my 96 impala and never had any problem... but i did have an LT4 knock sensor so, that kinda helped ..

I wouldn't run any less than 92 if I was you... why chance a detonation just save a few bucks?

seeing how you are in houston with the horrible heat and crappy air, i can almost garuntee you that you will start to ping/detonate if you run less octane than 92-93. the ONLY way i would do that i if i had a 160 thermo, water wetter, electric pump, and adjusted fans to make sure the car is running cool as heck.

my car has a tendancy to detonate on even 93 when the temperature is above about 94°
