Default Ignition Break-up at High Rpms

My car runs fine when im cruising around and "goosin" it every once in awhile but when I WOT it starts to pop(feels like ignition break-up) about 4000rpms! Some times its not as bad as others, but sometimes it falls on its face it breaks up so bad. I dont know what else to check.

Im also having a problem when the car sits for a little while, it will not start, just turn over.
Then Ill push the coil wire and make it snap on the optispark. Then it starts!
Its like its pushing it off....
New plugs/wires/optispark.
Runs fine at idle and DOES NOT throw any codes...

I would start with a new coil wire for sure. That could also be the cause of your break up at 4k.

High RPM miss/break-up is typically a coil.

Yeah, but he is having a problem with the coil wire making a solid connection on the opti. Replacing that coil wire would be the best place to start.

yeah, sometimes that wire can go bad.

edit: didn't notice you had new plugs/wires/opti.

probably is the coil or wiring then.

Gotta get a radiator cap this evening after work, Ill go ahead and get that coil wire. Im sure it will test good with the ohm meter but I think its just kicking off the opti.

Make your own coil wire. If you have any extra spark plug wires laying around you can cut the ends off and crimp on the ends that you need. Some autoparts places also sell spark plug wire by the foot, and you can also get the ends you need there too.

oh ya, forgot to mention. Sometimes when u run it hard it will feel like it starts to misfire even when sitting at idle. Lose all power and when I give it gas it sound like I'm hitting on 4 cylinders.
I'll turn the car off if it hasn't already died itself, wait a sec, then starts up fine!

Also feels like the popping at the higher rpm's gets worse when it warms up

I thought that too, but a tech at my work said it wasnt a fuel problem...
But I guess you cant rule out fuel.

Default Had the same problem...

Mine did the same thing your'e describing. I did read where you have a new Opti but that's what fixed mine. I just did all the mods in my sig and a couple of weeks later, developed a miss at 3500-4000 rpms. I bought a brand new AC/Delco Opti on it and the problem was gone. Right before the miss started, I had just installed a new MSD box and coil too. So we were thinking that because of the new found spark introduced to a stock Opti (80K miles), that it was crapping out...of course, I don't have to tell you how notorious they are for going out. But it turns out, when it was taken out (the stock Opti) and opened up, it had a small amount of oil in it. How it got there and where it came from was beyond me but it was there. At any rate, the new Opti fixed my problem. I don't know what kind of new Opti you put in, but I did alot of searches on here and found that the majority of guys had the best luck with a new AC/Delco than any other. MSD also came highly recommended but they are rather pricey so for 300.00, the AC/Delco unit cured my high rpm miss. Good luck with it.
