Default 96 misfire partially fixed...not all the way tho...depressing....

well after installing my headers, I got a misfire. Found out the front o2 sensors were disconnected, replaced them tonight and the problem is fixed for the most part...but im still getting a slight misfire, enough to throw a p0300 code and be a noticeable loss in power. what could i have unhooked, disconnected, screwed up to cause this??? im really starting to regret this whole headers idea....

Double and triple check your plug wires. I don't know what else. Did you extend the O2's yourself or buy extensions?

bought extensions.....the problem was way worse before when i extended it myself. Put on extensions and new o2 sensors. I have all new wires and heat boots on them. Neither the o2's nor the wires should be the problem.

Did You Check Actual Vaules With The Scaner ? Do You Notice Anything Out Of
Spec Like O2 Sensors Staying At A Certain Reading? DOES YOUR HEADERS HAVE EGR AND AIR FITTINGS?

yes the headers were the emissions style headers with the EGR and the AIR fittings.

I did not check actual values, I dont have access to a scanner so I just take the car the autozone and have them tell me the codes. Im sure the o2's are fine, they are brand new.

I have a pcmforless tune on the way, im hoping that the tune might fix the problem. If not, i guess ill see about the opti..

IMHO, I wouldn't dig into the opti unless you get an opti code.

Check the plug wires again and get a buddy to look with you.
Check all of your connections, even the brand new stuff.

Sometimes an new set of eyes sees something you missed.

So You Have Code That Could Mean You Have A Faulty Purge Vale. That May Cause A Misfire Becuase The Purge Valve Alows Fuel Vapor Stored In The Evap
Canister To Enter The Intake Before The Maf Sensor Making The Mixture Richer Then It Has To Be. If It Is Stuck Open Then Will Aways Allow Fuel Vapor To Enter The Intake No Matter What The Pcm Wants To Do. Take It Off And See If Its Stuck Open. It Should Always Be Closed. Or It Can Stick When It Gets Activated.

It Allows Fuel Vapor Stored In The Evap Canister To Enter The Engine After The Air Flow Meter. The Pcm Decides When Its The Best Time Open It And It Normaly Operates In Crusing Conditions. You Should Be Able To Find The Location On The Emissions Sticker In The Engine Compartment. If You Dont Have This Sticker Anymore The Follow The Vacume Lines From The Throtle Body And See If You Find A Line Thats Conected To Solinoid. I Would Go Outside To My Car To Give A Better Idea But 11:30 Pm And I Dont Have Flash Light.

On My 1994 Z28 Its Located On The Pass Of The Intake Manifold. You Shold Have 1 Line Coming From The Fuel Tank And Another Going To The T-body.

I Also Made A Mistake In The First Line Saying That The Valve Allows Fuel Vapor To Enter The Intake Before The Maf. It Enters It After The Maf Sensor. Thats Why If Its Stuck Open It Can Run Rich. The Maf Does Not Have Any Way To Correctly Measure Fuel Vapor.

If Its In The Same Location I As My 1994 Z28,i Would Plug The Hole On The T-body And Pluge The Hole On The Valve So You Take It Of The System Without
Setting Any Code That Relate To Electonic Failures As Dtc P0443

the hose is compleatly off and cracked and screwed, so that is definatly the problem. Ill get a new hose tommarrow. thanks for the help.

I replaced the coil wire and it made a huge diffrence on the misfiring. Im starting to feel alot better about it. Exhaust makes wierd noises, but there is a leak at the collector so im not to worried about it right now, ill get it welded up monday

It still shakes at low RPM under 1/2 throttle or more, but im thinking it just because of that vacuum leak from that hose. Im going to autozone tommarrow to get that fixed, dealer on monday to get a new coolant temp gauge wire, and my pcmforless tune should be in by tuesday or wednesday.

life is getting better. lol
