Question What cam to use?

Okay guys. I got my exhaust stuff coming, but i'm confused on what cam to get . I was going to get the lt4 hotcam kit because I can get a discount on them at work . I have a stock motor and don't plan to build a monster out of it. I have another block i'm building. I want something that is stout and builds good power, but i don't want to loose all streetability. I have a loudmouth with other exhaust pieces' coming and an air foil. That's it. I'm building another motor that i'll put in someday, when my wife lets me spend more money! LOL. I'm not going to have the heads ported or anything. I just want something to toy with and maybe suprise a few ls1 guys. Any opinion's?

the CC503 would work great with stock heads.

The LT4 hotcam kit is a really good setup. It sounds like you want excellent street manners and great driveability, the hotcam kit will give it to you.

I've heard a lot about that cc503, but where can I find one? I like the hot cam kit because it comes with springs and rockers. I was going to get new lifter's and push rods with my kit just for insured reliability.

The springs in the kit are insufficient which makes the kit much less of a good deal. Replacing lifters is likely money flushed down the toilet too, I would used better parts and reuse the lifters.

Also be aware the GMPP rockers are lift limited to like .550 so when you decide you want more power and do heads and cam again they will likely need to be replaced with something with more lift capacity.

You can have a lot more power than the HOT setup before drivability and reliability become concerns.

Do you have headers? You didn't mention that, thats what i would do first before a cam change.

I have used the 503 in a prior engine with great results. The driveability is fine--although I had 385 cubes with mild heads and shorty headers at the time. I was trapping 111 MPH and making 370 horsepower to the wheel; not too impressive but nonetheless better than stock.

Despite my positive experience, I'm sure there's a better cam out there for you.

Get an LPE 211/219 or the cc503 or custom.

I would read the sticky at the top of the forum.
And listen to Caprice's advise he is spot on with what he is saying about the lt4 kit.
