Default Y pipe install question

On the pacesetter Y pipes on the passenger side pipe there is a bracket welded on to put back on the stock exhaust hanger that comes off of the transmission, is this really needed? I got the Y pipe installed and everything but the holes to lign up the bracket on the Y pipe doent even come close... It feels pretty sturdy without it but I dunno...

I have not put mine on yet, but would think it might prevent a rattle.
