Default 3.42 to 3.73 is it worth it?

This is my first M6 car and I can tell the serious DRAG under 3500rpms compared to the higher rpms.... I want some lower gears but I hear that 4.10s are not good for the stock rear due to small pinon gears(or something like that)
Are 3.73's worth the swap...? or mabey 3.90s

I wouldn't personally want to waste the money to swap from 3.42's to 3.73's. I would definetly go 3.90 or 4.10. Are you planning on taking the car to the track ever? If not then I wouldnt be worried about putting 4.10's in.

Well... Ya, im goin take it to the track every once in awhile but mainly a DD!
Not by any means a track car... I havent heard much about 3.90s but that sounds like a good in between gear....
Does anybody know what rpm these run on the hwy about 70mph?

with the M6 you don't really have to worry about highway rpm, that's mostly for auto guys.

3.73's are great in a M6.. that is what I have and am very happy with them

In my 99 T/A I had the stock 3.42's and I can tell you that there is a noticeable difference, so is it worth it yes, would I go 4.11's with a DD, prob. not, as I am happy with the performance the 3.73's give, and I still can get 28-29mpg on the highway when driving good.

Well, at your power level I'd say you'll be fine. My car is an M6, and I have 4.10s in my 10 bolt...I've ran several passes in the 11s and many more in the 12.0-12.2 range on m/t drag radials. Granted I don't dump the clutch and launch hard for fear of breaking it, but if they can hold plenty of high 11/low 12 sec passes in my car, I'd say you'll be just fine with 4.10s in yours. Just be sure that they are set up properly, and I would advise you to use a TA rear girdle (or similar product) and stud kit.

Oh and as far as rpm on the highway, I turn 1800 @ 60mph.

I don't think your crazy.

I wouldn't, that's what I have and I hate it on the highway. I'm going back to 3.42s.

I would go with 3.73s, but I feel the swap from 3.42s isn't worth it too much. Plus, I get great mileage as it is and I barely ever beat on it.

Damn you auto guys have O/D and you're still complaining? My '78 has the B/W T-10 (no O/D) with 4.11s and redlines at 5K... and it's great!

I have the 3:90s and they're a pretty good street gear... runs about 1700 rpm cruising at 70. I wouldn't want to go to 4.10s in a street car.
