tire pressure?
What is the perfect tire pressure for a 275-40-17, what is stock on Camaro SS's. My lable is gone and the pressure on the tires says 55psi but that doesn't mean to pump it up to that. I have it at 32 psi and the tires looks concave or convex (underflated)
One more item how gallons of gas does the 93-97 F-bodys hold?
Thanks

perfect??? well thats subjective. i am a very aggressive driver and watch my tire pressure closely. for best tire wear i run max or at least 40-45 in the front and only about 25 in the rear. any more than that and i will spin the middle out of them on the back. i bump the rears up to 30-35 for a road trip then air them back down when i get where im going. it will vary alittle from tire to tire dependant on sidewall construction. i look at them after ive been driving for awhile and pull in somewhere at the dust line on the tire. where the actual contact of the road is while rolling straight with a hot tire. if most of the tread is not in contanct you will see it where dust is on the tire tread. anouther way to get a good contact patch for the back is to do a little burnout and check the black mark. if its light in the middle and dark on the outside(tire hot) then its under inflated. if its dark in the middle and lighter on the edges its over inflated. you want a solid dark mark all the way across. just my .02 everyone likes there tires a certain way but i drive alot and like said very agressive and this is what works best for me.

never be driven at max???? thats just dumb. specially at high speed. tires get hot when under inflated and at high speed this is very dangerous of a tire to blow if ran at high speed for extended times without being properly inflated. of coarse i drive way faster than i should for way longer than anyone should but still...........

that varies, depending on the weight and style of vehicle. the tire PSI on the door should always be what you go by. typically, the heavier the car, the higher the tire pressure. for example, a cadillac's tire pressures will be different than a corvette's, based on the same tires.

The rating on the side of the door isn't helpful since sidewall and width matter for PSI. I believe bigger tires (like mud tires) use less PSI than a low profile tire. So a 245 on a 17" will have a smaller sidewall (like his 275 is a 40) and a 245 on the 16" are bigger (stock is 50). So changing rim size, unless you keep the sidewall and width the same, basically renders the door sticker useless.
