Default Possible Optispark, LT1 newbie here.

my dad bought a 307 Caprice i guess it has an optispark, it turns over but doesnt start up, the mechinac told my dad it was an "ignition control module" is that another name for an optispark?

If so are they hard to replace, and expensive?

It's not another name for the optispark. The igintion control module (ICM) is connected with the coil in the same bracket located on the driver-side head. It's like $170 from GM I think but you can find them at the junk-yard and it takes maybe 5min to take out the old one and put in the new one.

No the ignition control module (icm) is a small chip next to the ignition coil that controls the ignition. Its very easy to replace and is cheaper than the optispark.

Actually, heck I have a spare one with a coil attached. I'll sell it to you for $30 if you want it.

its plug and play. there are 2 small bolts that hold it to it's bracket and dielectric grease for the heatsink on the back.
