Default rev limit of stock bottom end

ok as of right now my bolt on m6 w/4.10 gear is going through the traps almost redlining and im about to put in a cam. id like to shift at about 6100-6200. will the stock bottom end handle this? im thinking cc305, cc503, or crane 227. havent decided yet. also whoever i buy it from i will call tech and get matching springs, lifters, pushrods, and 1.6 rockers. any advise?

out of those cams i would choose the cc503..i had that in my 355 LT1 last year and it ran great, although i wish i had went with a cam with a little more lift. You'll have no prob shifting at 6200. as long as you keep it under 6500 your motor parts shouldn't really have too much of a problem. once you start getting into larger cams such as the gm847 and cc306 which like to spin to around 6800rpms, thats when things love to break.

i was running the comp beehive springs btw..i think they are 918's, not sure

With a 503 it will peak about where you want to limit yourself too, that does not work so well, you NEED to rev a couple hundred rpms past peak at least.

well acording to comp cams the 503 is meant for stock ported heads. i wont be porting them. they say the 305 is as big as you should go on the stock heads. any truth to that? also i do plan to to a h/c/i setup later but when i do that ill get a matched set. such as LE3

^A new stock GM chain will work just fine for you.

my other concern is of course the rear end. i dog on my car quite regularly and i dont want it to break.. i have a girdle and i wanna stud it. i guess thats all i can do do make it hold a cam. i dont quite have the money for a 12 bolt but that will be my next upgrade.
