Default Squeaking...

Ok, well there was a squeaking sound under the hood and someone told me it was the alternator. So I got a new alternator...and its still there. The alternator doesnt need to "break in" or anything does it? If not, what else could it be?

Take the accessory belt off and start it to see if the squeak is still there. If it goes away then I'd be more inclined to say it is your idler pulley. With that being said I'd spray some WD-40 on the pulley (bearings) and see if the squeak disappears.

no the alternator does not need to break in. ss rrr is right, just take some wd40 and spray each pulley until squeak goes away then you know what pulley you need to replace.

if its the idler pulley its to keep the belt tight there pretty cheap and easy to replace but dont wait to long to do it or you will loose it. know from experiance there

Sounds like idler pulley. Any parts store can get you one relatively easily. See if pic helps

Decently common prob and easy fix. Just make sure you get the whole pulley and not just the bearing. Its not a very pricy fix.

Chances are that overspray got onto the idler pulley. The pulley I think is just keywayed and bolts onto pump with no bearing so it really can't make any noise. The pump could be making noise but hitting it with wd40 isn't going to do anything for a whining pump. Its gotta be that idler pulley or a tensioner. I'd say take the belt off and spin each pulley by hand and see which one feels like its dragging or making noise.
